I struggled with my skin for many years. In my early 20's I had such terrible acne that I often didn't want to leave the house or look at my face, and I was just embarassed of it all the time. I tried every cream there was out there, but nothing worked. I was depressed and miserable and I hated my face. That's when I realized that it's not just about what you put on your skin, it's about what you put into your body - and my body was actually reacting to food! The acne was really just a symptom of deeper health issues, like Celiac Disease and Candida. So I started my own 'elimination diet' (before it was cool), and slowly but surely my acne healed and I felt SO much better!! It's all about gut health, people. This is why I'm a huge fan of working with your skin from the inside out, so check out my tips below for getting your best skin yet.
One of my new favourite products is Skinshot, a product that uses herbs to help you get that glowing skin you've always wanted, from the inside out. Their secret recipe is a perfect blend that helps your body to collect the free radical particles that can contribute to acne and other skin issues. It's amazing! Definitely worth a try! All you do is mix the Skinshot with water twice a day - so easy. They also recommend going gluten and dairy, sugar and processed food free, which I am totally on board with, and of course loading up on antioxidants like spinach. Their e-book is super informative! Love it.
Lemon Turmeric Tonic
This is something I started doing recently to help with an eczema rash I had developed, and what is amazing is after using a bunch of creams that didn't work, I decided to try turmeric because it has amazing anti-inflammatory properties. And it WORKED!!! Twice a day I like to have warm lemon water, with a spoonful of organic Turmeric powder mixed in and voila, you have a potent morning drink to reduce internal inflammation. There are also Curcumin supplements that you can get which are also very effective!
Healing morning green smoothie
I'm a huge fan of smoothies. But recently I had to retire my favourite avocado cacao smoothie because it was just adding to the aforementioned eczema rash. So I developed this smoothie recipe to calm and heal my skin, and it's free of any sugars or ingredients that might add to inflammation or gut issues. It includes coconut oil (for it's antifungal and skin healing properties), as well as marine collagen (because it's supposed to make you look younger), chlorella (because it has excellent detoxifying properties, in addition to Iron and B vitamins), blueberries (for the antioxidants), and probiotics to heal your gut and make your skin glow. Try it out!
Recipe is below - it's a big smoothie, probably good for one super hungry woman or two regularly hungry people :) Also keep in mind these are just estimations so feel free to edit this recipe as you wish.

3 cups of Coconut Milk (not the canned kind)
